I strip the Special Forces officer of his uniform, and dress him in my clothes. Luckily, he looks somewhat like me. I leave him at the back of the elevator, with the knife still in his neck. I take his shotgun and pull the black balaclava over my face, as to hide my face, however, there is still the hole in the side.

The elevator “dings” and blood has pooled on the floor around the body, I am now on the roof. David is there, probably thinking of stopping me from killing the chancellor, unaware that he is too late. He turns around when the elevator arrives and his ponderous look turns into a look of sheer horror as he sees “Rasputin” with a knife in “his” throat.

“H-He, he-he’s . . . dead . . ?” David says in utter horror.

“No. He is very much alive,” I say back.

“Oh no.”

“Oh yes.” Read the rest of this entry »

“What in the hell are you doing here?!” the chancellor says in a shaky and frightened voice. He begins to move for the button under his desk – which would call for backup. Intent on stopping him, I dash forward and and grab a paperweight off of his desk and hit him over the head with it. He fall out of his chair and onto the floor, I hit him with the paperweight again. I grab him by the lapels of his suit jacket and slam him into a wall over to my left. He is saying something to me, however, I can’t hear him and lay into his face with my fists. Blood pours from the chancellor’s mouth, and through broken teeth he says:

“Rasputin, please stop. You and I, we are the same.” My hands move up to his throat. “Please stop . . .”

“Chancellor, the only thing that we have in common is that we are both going to die today.” My hands tighten around the chancellor’s throat, and he smiles, I smile too. Then comes the sickening snap. Read the rest of this entry »

My arm dropped back down to my side, the dark skinned man comes back with a fire extinguisher and puts out Joseph’s body. He removes the sword from his chest and dragged the body out of the arena.

I turned around, not saying anything, and walked towards the exit: an elevator at the back of the arena. I pushed the call button, and while I stand waiting for the elevator I say to the crowd, “Fuck you, you ignorant assholes.”

Just as the elevator doors open David catches my attention, he makes an “R” in sign language with his left hand and an “F” with the right, “RF” roof. I walk into the elevator and press the button for the roof. Read the rest of this entry »

There was really no way to prepare myself for the task at hand, sure I had killed before but that made little difference. Those people were criminals, they deserved it, Joseph, however, was five years younger than me, and more importantly, innocent. He hadn’t done anything wrong. Sure he attacked me, but he was desperate for his freedom, as were all of us.

I walked, tiredly, down to gray hall to the arena, two men in dark suits escorted me down to the arena. I don’t think they were the men from before, there was really no way to tell.

When I reached the arena I was on an elevated platform, on the opposite side of the stands. Cameras zoom in on me, and ignorant people cheer.

On the opposite side of the platform Joseph emerges from a tunnel and he waves to the crowd, they cheered. Read the rest of this entry »

My body is in pain from the impact, slowly I got up off of the wooden floor. There were many questions that I wanted to ask him. But now is not the time, I knew he would attack again, soon.

I snap sending an arc of flame in Joseph’s direction, he rolls away and in mid-air sends a wave of telekinetic energy in my direction. The wave hits me, and I am launched into a bookshelf along the left wall of the library. Pain overwhelms me. I fall and hit the floor, hard. Books fall onto me.

Ignoring the pain I spring to my feet and pick up a large tomb that weighed at least fifteen pounds, and had over two-thousand pages. I throw it at Joseph, while it is in mid-air I set it on fire. The book hits Joseph square in the chest, he falls over from the impact. He pushes the flaming book off of his chest and puts out the flames by smacking them with his hands. He gets up, blowing on his blistered hands. Read the rest of this entry »

Batman: The Long Halloween was printed in a maxiseries format with thirteen issues, written by Jeph Loeb and drawn by Tim Sale.

There is a killer slaying members of the Falcone family (a gang that is taking over Gotham City) and marking his killings with holidays, starting on Halloween, and ending the following year also on Halloween. Of course Batman is trying to stop him as all of the super villains in Gotham seem to amassing for an attack. This story also doubles as an origin story for Two-Face.

What really made this book great for me was that usually in Batman books there are either just gangsters, or just super villains, however, The Long Halloween uses both and does it well, no other Batman book that I’ve read besides The Dark Knight Returns. But sadly besides this and Hush Jeph Loeb hasn’t really made anything good, mostly he sucks, besides the two books aforementioned. Very upsetting. However, Tim Sale’s art is very good, it has this sort of Saturday morning cartoon feel, and it is very good. But I will say that Jeph Loeb does not know how to write the Scarecrow, apparently he thinks that all the Scarecrow does is recite nursery rhymes, and although at some times it works, but it is just not needed at some points, and is kind of stupid.

This aside, I do very much recommend this book, one of the best Batman books ever published.

Recently, (like two hours ago) I re-read Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, and I have to say that after re-reading it I appreciate  the novel much more, and see why everyone likes it so much. I found out about the book from my Theater Arts teacher Mr. Rickettes, we were talking about Watchmen and I told him that Wizard magazine called it the greatest comic book of all time, and he says that he thinks The Dark Knight Returns is the greatest comic book. At the time (of course) I hadn’t heard of it, so I looked for it in the library and they had it. After reading it I didn’t really get why it was so amazing, so I read it again, still not seeing why it was so good. Possibly because at the time I was reading Watchmen and didn’t care much. So, yesterday after re-reading the other book for the fourth time I decided to re-read The Dark Knight Returns again. And like I said now that I pay more attention to it without thinking of Watchmen it was so much better, Miller really knows how to write Batman.

The book was released back in ’85 and ’86 as a monthly limited series, it ran four issues. And was written and drawn by Frank Miller. The book is very good and now I think I agree with my TA teacher, maybe The Dark Knight Returns is a little better than Watchmen. But then again I am thirteen and don’t “fully understand life” yet, so my opinion may just be invaild, oh well. Great book either way, go buy it.

David begins to walk over to  Joseph and attempt to help him calm down. I stop him and say, “David, is it alright if I leave?”

“Sure, Rasputin. Just take the elevator that brought you up here,” he says pointing at the elevator. He then walks over to Joseph, trying to comfort him but fails miserably. Joseph shouts some obscenities at David, and through all his curses his message is clear: “Leave me alone.”

David gives up and walks by me, he presses the button marked with an up arrow on the elevator’s outside panel. I follow him.

While we are in the elevator David says: “The first match will be starting soon, are you coming?”

“No. I’ll watch the live showing on T.V. Is there a library in this damn place?” Read the rest of this entry »

I awoke in the square gray room. Groggily I got off the bed, rubbing my eyes I walked out of the room. The two men in suits escorted me back to the man in green’s study. This time they didn’t grab my jacket or point guns at me, they merely walked on either side of me.

The suited men and I reached the cherry wood door to the man in green’s study. The men stood guard on either side of the door. I turned the knob and opened the door shutting it behind me.

“Ah, Rasputin, good morning,” says the man in green in a giddy sort of tone. Read the rest of this entry »

When I awoke there was a throbbing pain in my head from when the Special Forces smacked me over the head. I tried to move but was chained to a metal chair. My middle finger was still broken, it was really uncomfortable because there were these sort of metal mits on my hands. I sat waiting for whatever the hell the world was going to throw at me next, I didn’t have to wait long. Two men in dark suits with shaved heads and black leather gloves. They unchained me from the chair and out of the solitary room. One of them dragged me along by my jacket through the Psychic Ward, and the other had a pistol to my head. Behind every sanitized door was a psychic waiting to be executed.

But to my surprise they dragged my right by the WWII style gas chamber and into a sort of study. With walls and shelves of  cherry wood, every shelf was filled with books, and once all the shelves were filled there were books piled onto the floor and desks and tables. There was a man sitting at a desk at the back of the room, he had thinning gray hair, and a green plaid suit. The dark suite men released me and left, closing the door behind them. The morning sun began to peek over the hills behind the small forest. I stood with my M1 ready to shoot any undead that come our way.Vincent and Jack were going to the car to get any supplies that weren’t destroyed. Austin stood a few feet away from me, the cold must have been getting to him, he took his black trench coat out of his bag, and draped it over his body.

Vincent came back with nothing, “Uh, there wasn’t much to be salvaged, it was either broken or missing. “He said, for some reason sounding guilty. “But there is a supermarket and an Army Surplus Store on the way to our camp, if you would like to restock we can and get new weapons as well.” Read the rest of this entry »

This most certainly is an estranged world, and an unfair one at that. People like me aren’t accepted in regular society. I am single, always have been, probably always will be. I have no friends, and haven’t since I was thirteen. And it’s all because of these god damned powers that I didn’t even ask for. And to think that I was a normal boy for thirteen years then BAM! Like a ton of bricks it all came down.

I remember it like it had happened only a few hours ago, December 7th, 2003, I sat eagerly on our old couch retrieved from a dumpster two years prior. I wait for my mother to bring me my presents, “There you are,” she says, I snatch the presents away from her with almost an animal instinct, I tore into the colorful paper with two hands. Inside is a box, hurriedly I take off the lid, there are books, all the ones I wanted. Then all my friends gather around to examine my gift. I was overtaken with excitement, and it felt like there was something building up inside me. The energy is released, I see a huge, fiery explosion, the people around me are turned to charred skeletons, warm blood splashes my face. Neighbors called police, they all call me a “child murderer”. Luckily the cops acknowledge it was an accident and don’t send me to jail. But none of my other relatives will take me in, no matter how much they loved me, they were too afraid they would meet the same fate as my friends, and my mother. Read the rest of this entry »

I’ll start by saying that I’m not back, however, I will be doing a new novel titled Ultra Violence, this novel is about a man who can use pyrokenesis, in a world that exiles psychics. This is all I’ll say about Ultra Violence for now, I will try and upload some chapters, as well as do some more for Z-Day. I’m almost done with Day 5, and when I get the time I’ll finish it.

Watchmen, to put it simply, is a great book, and definitely was the pinnacle of the comic medium, or did it ruin it? As I said this is an excellent book, great writing a wonderful story, that was revolutionary in superhero comics. But when Watchmen and Dark Knight Returns, were, as I said, the pinnacle of the comic medium, but to me they brought down the comic medium for quite a while. NOTE: Both books are really violent, and explicitly sexual, so the idiot writers of comics didn’t take the hint to bump up the writing but instead they pile on the gore and tits, and throw the writing to the to the god damned wind. Thus began the ’90’s era where in comics there was nothing but gore and tits. This pisses me off. Whatever, know one even cares what I have to say. And yes I stole this rant from MovieBob.

The trip was absolutely horrid, and not because half-eaten corpses and ghouls litters the streets (which was bad too), but because neither of us had anything to say. Nothing to comment on, no music, no anything, just static. And it was Christmas, it was cold as hell. Then a thought came to my mind: a lot of people didn’t make it this far, why in the hell am I complaining when we’re lucky to be alive?

“It’s Christmas,” I say,”I can’t believe for so many people it has to be spent hiding out in some old, dark, and decaying building.”

“Shame, it is, but we have our own lives to worry about.” Read the rest of this entry »

I snap awake, startled by the scratching and banging on the windows. They had found us, but how? Not that I hadn’t realized it was inevitable, but there were a lot of them. What did we do to attract so many? Then I hear it, the loud bang of a shotgun. Was it that kid? Did it matter? Whoever it was they were drawing great attention to our position, and I knew that Austin heard it too when he came running into the kitchen yelling my name.

“Will! Will!”

“Quiet,” I shush him,”This isn’t the time there are a lot of ghouls out there. Some dumbass with a shotgun has gone crazy and is blowing off the heads of ghouls. We need to leave.”

“You’re right,” Austin says with a ponderous look on his face, “the back door will suffice, am I wrong?”

“No. Go get the supplies and let’s go.”

“Hey Will?”

“Yeah,” I say, not expecting a question in this time of crisis.

“What time is it?”

I was uncertain, I rolled up my sleeve and looked at my watch, “12 a.m.”

“Damn, this asshole is out at 12 in the morning shooting ghouls, does he not realize that he is attracting even more zombies of the area?

“Maybe he was bitten, and wants to die.”

“Even so,” Austin says, “he should want others to live . . .” Austin trailed off and went into the living room and picked up the packs, he threw me my tan backpack and I strapped and secured it to my back. Austin took the bar off the backdoor and pulled his shotgun off his back.

“Little noisy don’t you think?” I muse.

“There’s already a crazy jackass with a shotgun in the middle of the night, why not add another?” I force a smile.

I took out my .45 and shot at the zombies near by. There were at least thirty in the vicinity. Any that got within ten feet I put a bullet in their brain. Austin had my back, pumping a shell into any that would try to grab him. We worked our way into the streets, the guy with the shotgun was not the kid but, by the look of him, was in his thirties. He (not surprisingly) had a group of undead surrounding him in a cul de sac. He was protecting his famiy (a wife, and two children) it was saddening, but there was no way to help him and they were doomed anyways, we had to survive, no use making two ghouls trying to save those that are already doomed.

We ran through the blood stained streets of Austin’s neighborhood, keeping our back-to-back formation. We reach the entrance to his neighborhood and jump into a dormant car, after Austin hot wires it we drive away.

“Where are we going?” I ask Austin.

“We’re going to San Antonio.”

“Why the hell are we going to San Antonio.”

“I’ve heard there is a survivor camp up there. They’re going to storm Dallas so that they can have a place to wait for rescue.”

“Alright. But what about when the car runs out of gas. Right now it’s only half full,” I say pointing at the meter.

“We walk.”

“San Antonio’s a long way away on foot.”

“Well, what other hope do we have.”

In my sleep I hear a voice, it’s echoic, and distorted, but it sound familiar. It’s Austin.”Uh, Will? You should wake up,” he says in a panicky tone. My eyes slowly open, I see Austin, he had his hand on my shoulder, apparently he was shaking me. I rolled over on my back and see the barrel of a shotgun aimed at my head, I am instantly awake. Shit! I think to myself. What happened while I was asleep?

“G-Get up,” the boy says (he can’t be older than 15). He waves the shotgun barrel over to the wall behind me where Austin stands with his hands up. I comply, slowly getting up off of the bed and back away to where Austin is standing. “L-Listen,” he starts moving the barrel closer to us, as if to prove that he is a major threat, “if you give me your supplies you’ll go unharmed, if not . . .” he let the sentence drop, as if for dramatic effect. Not knowing any other way out of the situation I kneel down and take a strap of each pack into my left and right hands.

“Stop!” Austin barks at me, I comply. “Put them down Will.” I listen.

“D-Dammit, if you give me the supplies I’ll leave and you’ll keep your lives,” he says. Moving the shotgun back and forth between the torsos of Austin and I, as if he didn’t know which of us was the greater threat.

Austin, keeping his cool and not getting pissed off, says. “Please, we aren’t like the zombies, we still have full function of our thoughts, we can negotiate. Will and I have enough supplies for three people and, as you can see, we’re a group of two. If there is something you need than please tell me, we’d be more than happy to give it to you.”

The boy took his shotgun in his right hand finger still on the trigger. “I-I need medicine,” he stops and pulls up his left sleeve revealing a chunk of flesh missing from his forearm. “One of those bastards bit me. I just need a First-Aid Kit.”

“Alright,” I say, and kneel down by the packs again and ug around in Austin’s backpack until I found one of the white tins with the little red cross. I got up, and held out my hand for the guy to take the kit. He takes it and puts it in his belt and walks out thanking us for the medicine.

“One more ghoul for the slaughter,” I say.

“Don’t be so gloomy,” Austin says bumping me in the arm with the back of his hand.

“I’ll go on watch now. You need some rest, you may be strong, but you’re useless if you’re tired.”

“You’re right, goodnight, and goodluck.”

I picked up my M1 I had against the wall behind where we were standing. At any moment I could have grabbed my M1 and put a bullet in that kid’s brain, but my God damned morals got in the way. I pulled out on of the wooden chairs from the kitchen and sat in the room. My legs crossed rifle in my lap, then lit a cigarette. First I had in two weeks.

Damn, I have no willpower.

As I sat there my eyes got heavy and I drifted away to the land of dreams, this is the first time I’ve ever fallen asleep during my shift.
